Treat Life Like a Video Game: How a Gamer Built a $500K/Month Online Business

I spent 130 days on a single World of Warcraft character. Then I applied that same obsession to real life.

I grew up playing video games. World of Warcraft, League of Legends, Counter-Strike, Call of Duty — you name it. In WoW, there's a command you can type into the chat — /played — that shows you how much real time you've spent on a single character. One day I typed it in and saw: 130 days.

That's 130 full 24-hour days. Over four months of my life staring at a screen, grinding one character in one game. When I saw that number, something clicked.

What if I could redirect that exact same focus — the grinding, the goal-setting, the obsessive pursuit of leveling up — into building something real?

Five years later, I'm making $300,000 to $500,000 per month in profit from online businesses. Working two to three hours a day. From a cabin in the mountains of Norway. And I genuinely believe it's the same skillset.

Gaming and Entrepreneurship Use the Same Mechanics

Here's what I've noticed: a disproportionate number of successful online entrepreneurs are former gamers. And it's not a coincidence.

Think about what it takes to get good at a game like World of Warcraft. You have to grind. You have to pursue specific goals. You have to manage multiple systems — your gear, your gold, your skills, your guild, your strategy. You have to think long-term while executing short-term.

Online business is almost identical. There are many aspects you need to manage — your product, your marketing, your funnel, your content, your team. If you set clear goals, build clear strategies, and grind consistently, it's incredibly scalable.

The difference between gaming and real life isn't the mechanics. It's the rewards. In real life, the loot is actual freedom and actual money.

I specifically remember spending six months — two to three hours a day — farming gold in WoW. Literally spawn-killing the same mobs, looting them, selling their drops in the auction house. Six months. Just to have the nicest gear and skins. If I could do that for virtual gold, I could certainly do it for real income.

The Myth

The People Making Real Money Don't Look Like Influencers

Here's something most people get wrong about online business: they think success looks like yachts, models, and Lamborghinis. It doesn't.

The people making the real millions — not $10K or $20K per month doing influencer stuff, but the ones clearing half a million a month — are usually invisible. They're sitting in their garage. Or a home office. Or, in my case, an isolated cabin in Norway with my business partner and my girlfriend.

No parties. No flexing. No nightclubs. Just fiber Wi-Fi and the video game of life.

I'm not saying I haven't tried the flashy lifestyle. I've had the expensive watches, the nice cars, the parties. And I can tell you: it provides zero fulfillment and creates zero value. That's not where you level up.

One of the first people who introduced me to online business was a guy who had been sitting in his garage recording videos and building businesses for 10-15 years. That's the real picture. That's what actually works.

The Advantage

You Have a Remote Control to the World in Your Pocket

Here's why this moment in history is so different. A hundred years ago, your opportunities depended on the family you were born into, the money you inherited, or the connections you had. And sure, some of that still applies today.

But for the rest of us — those without trust funds or family businesses — we get to play the game in a way that has never been possible before.

You're carrying a device in your pocket that gives you access to all the world's information, every tool you need, and a global audience. Your smartphone is a remote control to the world. The question is: what are you using it for?

Some people use it to scroll social media for hours. Others use it to build businesses that generate millions. Same device. Completely different outcomes.

I used to look at people who were earlier in their journey and feel a little superior. Then I realized: that's exactly how I look at myself five years ago. And when I look back at what I was doing then, I cringe. Hard.

But here's the thing — everything I did back then is what led me to where I am today. Every awkward video. Every bad decision. Every naive strategy. It was all part of leveling up.

What does surprise you is how much more becomes possible when you give your mind the space to expand. The ideas I'm executing now would have been impossible for me to conceive when I was grinding toward that first $10K. You have to level up to unlock the next tier of thinking.

I believe income and profit are a direct correlation to how much positive value you create for people. That's not a feel-good line — it's been the operating principle behind every dollar I've made.

I have very little respect for people who grow wealth without creating any value in return. Inheriting a portfolio of rental properties and raising rents isn't building anything. Those people often end up chasing dopamine at nightclubs every weekend because they can't get it from the value they create — because they don't create any.

For those of us starting from scratch, the mission is clear: scale your income by scaling your impact.

The Path

Two Paths If You're Just Starting Out

If you're wondering where to actually begin, I recommend two paths depending on your situation:

Path 1: You Have Expertise Worth Sharing

Create an online course. It's the fastest way to package your knowledge, share it with hundreds or thousands of people, and scale to $10K, $50K, or even $100K+ per month. It's simpler than most people think.

Path 2: You Don't Have Expertise Yet

Help other professionals create, launch, and scale their courses. Learn everything about the course business model, then find talented professionals whose expertise could benefit thousands — and build it for them.

One of our community members, Victor, just started doing exactly this. In a single day, he signed two clients at $4,500 setup fees each — that's $9,000 on day one — plus 40% profit share on every dollar those courses generate going forward. If he scales just one of those clients to $100K/month, that's $40,000/month in recurring income for him.
